The 4-1-2 "German" offense

nathan

The 4-1-2 German offense was popularized in the mid to late 90's in Germany. It doesn't see a lot of play nowadays, partly because it is not as dynamic as even a basic V or H stack. A very possession-based offense, the German is essentially an iso on a midfield cutter, where handlers throw to space and it is the isolated player's job to run the disc down. Ultimately it boils down to a moderate-risk, semi-floaty pass to the iso player, followed by a series of low risk continuation passes (or alteratively a reset to the handlers). Also known as "Lawn Chess", two teams playing German can be quite boring to watch as cuts are few, and turnovers are even fewer. Still, the German can be effective, particularly if there is a mismatch between two players.

Offense

Side Diamonds

junbojack

Horizontal Offense Flow. This play classes 2 mids with 1 handler. leaving the central handler with a role of swinging the disc quickly to the sides. All cuts are directed to the sidelines initially but the play will move across the field. Like www.facebook.com/vortexultimateSG for more plays!

Throwing/Give Go Drill

bob2hungry

More realistic throwing drill that involves a moving target and a receiver that must turn to look up field.

Defense

Breakforce, Give-Go, Chasing Mark, Swing Prevention

bob2hungry

O and D drill. Object for O is to break the force, chase the throw (give-go) and fake swing passes. Object for D is to chase the mark, hold a force and prevent swing passes by looking over shoulder and identifying threats (not buying fake).

Defense

Shite 1

bob2hungry

A fast drill involving O and D players. Object for O is to chase your throws (give and go), faking and breaking the force. Object of D is to chase your mark after they throw, set up a force quickly after identifying down field threats, not buying fakes and holding a proper force.

Offense

Handler Weave

nickallen

Basic Handler weave, and variations on where the disc can end up. Keep in mind that Handler 3 can also receive any of these passes. Also, I didn't give an example, but if Handler 3 receives the disc on his dump cut, Handler 2 should open for the continuation across the field.

EndZone

Handler Endzone Play

davidwalker629

This is a great endzone play when the disc is off center and the defense is forcing the right way. It can be used on either side of the field, just flipped.
