We do this because the under-open is the place where the offensive team can complete a short pass 1. that gains yards and 2. doesn't require breaking the force. But as the disc moves, cutters' access to the under-open space changes and defenders must adjust to not give cutters an easy lane into that space.

Taking the inside / outside line
dnortonBy decisively taking either the inside or outside line, the defender can force the cutter off their ideal cutting line. Each option has pros and cons: Pushing inside - Pro: Makes any completed throw have minimal gain, with the force immediately on. Con: Gives up the shorter, easier throw. Pushing outside - Pro: Makes for a harder throw. Con: If the throw is complete, it is received in a power position with the defender trailing
