- Labels of players are the same as what we discussed at practice; 1 & 4 are Deep-Deep and 2 & 3 are under (just remember the two middle numbers (2 & 3) are always covering the under whether it's vert or ho) Communication is key to keeping this Squid call effective. Ideally, 2 and 3 should talk to each other to cover multiple undercuts, and 1 and 4 should communicate with each other to establish a last back and rail assignment. No opposing player should pass either of you in the 1 and 4. You must establish who will be last back in the event of a FIRE call. 2 and 3 should have their backs angled parallel to their respective sidelines or shaded more inside (so not with their backs to the handler). This means this pair should be looking at each other. It will be a lot easier to cover ground, communicate cuts from behind each other, and cover the space between you two.

Defense

2-3-2 "Box" Zone (2-3-1-1)

jlaurie

The 2-3-2 "Box" zone is a containment zone, designed to "contain" the movement of the disc, limiting the options of the throwers to short passes between the handlers or in front of the wall. The overall goal is to get the offense to try to throw the disc over the top, where the “short deep” (player 6) is waiting or into the “box” (in the middle of players 1, 2 & 4, 3, 5). Player 3 plays a significant role in defending against cutters coming into the “box” as well as baiting throws. The “short deep” (player 6) is also a freelancer, cleaning up any passes over the top. If the offense manages to complete a pass into the “box” the entire defense shifts backwards, holding the same form and preventing additional passes upfield.
