Step by step 10 steps
  1. Step 1

Initial setup vs. a vertical stack. Red 1, 2, and 3 keep their positions in the middle (1) left (2) and right (3) throughout the point.

  2. Step 2

The force will be middle/straight, trying to make the offense throw deep across the field and not up the length of the field. So when the disc moves horizontally amongst the handlers, the mark shifts to push the disc back into the middle.

  3. Step 3

When the disc is centered, the mark returns to (1) and they go straight up/no big. (3) stays on the other side, poaching the laine and guarding any throws/cutters who try to attack that side.

  4. Step 4

Defenders (4) and (5) are guarding close to the middle of the field, protecting the holes between the front wall. They need to read the spaces and the cutters and be ready to move in or out for short or floaty throws.

  5. Step 5

**NOTE** If there is only one handler back, the open defender in the wall (3) should play deeper and closer to the center, forcing short throws to the sideline. This allows (4) to back up and guard more mid-range throws.

  6. Step 6

**As one or two cutters attack that side, (4) can communicate to (3) to move in and guard in while (4) moves back into the middle.**

  7. Step 7

Lastly, the two Deep defenders (6) and (7) must be vigilant all the way through the point. Communicating to each other when cutters move deep, maintaining defense on their side of the field, but also being prepared to charge in when the throw is shorter and floaty.

  8. Step 8

If the stack dissipates and tries to spread out, more communication will be required to keep the zone functioning well.

  9. Step 9

If the disc drops straight back to the middle, then the mark chases and remain on the disc, while the other defenders in the wall and midfield close in to keep the pressure on the disc

  10. Step 10

If the disc moves upfield everybody drops and the well reestablishes in front of the thrower line.
