Step 1

O1 plays the ball down the line to O5, who is between the defense's midfield and back lines.

Step 2

D1, the nearest defender, presses O5 from the inside. D2 covers behind D1, and D3 and D4 shift across toward the ball.

Step 3

O5 knocks the ball down the line past D1, straight toward D2, the covering defender.

Step 4

D2 steps out to pressure O5. D1 recovers goal side into the cover position behind D2.

Step 5

The roles have swapped: D2 presses, D1 covers, and D3 and D4 hold the middle. O5 still has no way through.
