Step by step 14 steps
  1. Step 1

disregard the cutters and rest of the zone. I want to focus on the cup movement.

  2. Step 2

Lets say they get off an easy dump pass.

  3. Step 3

When a pass is completed the mark's job (Blue1) is to not allow a break throw. The rest of the cup (Blue2 and Blue3) stay in formation to stop easy throws back to the middle handler or upfield in the middle.

  4. Step 4

Notice how the mark takes a wide sweeping angle to the disc. #1 priority is stopping breaks, not getting there ASAP.

  5. Step 5

The cup is now settled back into full cup shape.

  6. Step 6

If all goes well, we force another dump pass even closer to the sideline.

  7. Step 7

Once again, the marks job is to not allow a break throw. It is more difficult in this situation because the dump was taken a little deeper.

  8. Step 8

At this point we are close enough to the sideline to move into our trap scheme.

  9. Step 9

Middle man becomes mark, mark cuts off dumps, and off mark takes away the line.

  10. Step 10

If we get to this point we should have them. They should force up a bad huck that our defense will eat up. BUT, for the sake of learning lets say they break us here and get back to the middle.

  11. Step 11

This is REALLY tough to recover from (which is why not getting broken is so important).

  12. Step 12

At this point we are in damage control. We expect them to get a couple throws in. If the rest of the zone is done correctly these throws will be across the field.

  13. Step 13

The cup has to get around the disc as quickly as possible and stop the bleeding. Hopefully within a throw or two we will be back on the correct side and forcing them back to the sideline we want after only giving up a few yards.

  14. Step 14

When we are comfortable with this, we will add wrinkles like swapping the force side after breaks, or forcing towards the middle of the field.
