Red is O Blue is D
pull is made
So this is how our zone works. There will be one mark, three walls/cups, two mids and one deep. The job of the mark is to continuously mark every person that will make contact with the disc. The wall is there to follow the mark and block off the throws, forming a cup. The mids, like the name, will play in the middle of the field, not playing man defense, they will follow the closest threats coming from the middle field. The deep is the final line of defense that will block the long hucks as well as be the voice of the team. For Offense, when there is a zone, we will need four handlers, two mids and one deep. The four handlers will swing to each other, trying to make the cup tired while trying to gain yards. Generally u want to slowly inch farther and farther up the field. The mids' job is to cut in whenever they can. The deep is the deep strike.
This is what its like to swing the disc. See that the mark forces the holder to the side of the field where the wall will block the up field throw. Notice the deep positions himself inbetween the thrower and the other deep.
In this situation, if the cut does not work, swing to the other side.
Continue swinging if necessary
And hopefully by the side swing, you get an open look. Notice how the four handlers form a U shape, making sure that when they swing, they make it farther up the field.
If theres an open cutter, throw to them, if not, continue swinging. But lets say we do have an open cutter, we throw to them.
This generally gives an opportunity to huck or reset.
