First situation. The disc is trapped on the line. The cutters haven't got free and the handlers need to recycle the disc. In all of these plays we aim to get the disc to the break side of the pitch in order to get a quick progression up the pitch. Blue players 1, 2, 3, and 4 are all handlers to a certain extent and should be interchangeable.
The second handler (2) strikes up the line. There is a chance this throw will be on, but in case it isn't player 3 has read the situation and run straight forwards to receive the swing.
Player 4 has read the situation and strikes to the break side to receive the quick continuation throw from player 3. Player 2 has now rejoined the front of the stack.
This leaves the three cutters free to attack quickly down the break side, with their markers having to make up ground to get the D.
And score. Of course if we're not comfortable to throw the disc or the players upfield are marked too tightly, then they will look for a dump pass and we begin again.
Reset play.
This time the disc is in the middle and we have a normal stack situation. Again if the stall count is high, we look to recycle. Here the key players are 1,2 and 3. 2 makes a 45 degree angle to player 1. IF they are clever player 2's marker will poach the up the field pass and we use this to our advantage.
Player 1 turns around completely for the dump pass slightly to the break side.
And then player 1 clears the space, bringing their marker with them. Whilst player 3 makes a simple break cut. Again we are then free to go on to score, or keep playing the disc sensibly.
Reset play. The final option is that we are being forced away from the sideline.
Here there are two options. The first is to attempt to break the marker straight away and throw to player 3.
This is risky, but if the thrower is confident it can work well. Reset.
The other option it to play a swing give and go. Player 2 runs back to receive the disc.
Immediately after throwing player 1 runs to receive the disc back from 2.
At the very least we have now worked the disc back to the middle of the pitch. Player 1 can now attempt to throw a quick break to 3 if the angle is ok.
