Initial set. R-6 and R-7 are manned up on B-6 and B-7, respectively. They sag the lanes on early counts (to 4,5) to help downfield defense. R-5 is marking straight up.
R-2,3,4 prevent unders and under flood.
R-1 helps out on deep, but try to stay manned on cutters if possible. Do not give more than 2 to 3 yards.
If the offense can't find a cutter, they have two options:
1) Direct Dump-
We maintain form, offense gets a new count, but loses yards
*Important: We should pressure the resets to make it more uncomfortable for the offense in later counts, as they will be focused on the backfield anyway. However, this zone is more contain-based than aggressive, so err on the side of caution. It's better for them to lose yards on a reset than to hit under cuts.
2) Swing the disc to a side
R-7 marks his man and is straight up (slight force middle). 5 now saggs into the active cutter space, and R-6 pinches in to pressure R-7 into losing yards
If the offense tries to go dump swing...
The handler defenders play loosely, containing the offense to only swing passes (hopefully trying to force yardage losses and uncomfortable dumps).
Similar to Clam, if the offense gets the disc to a cutter, the defense must shift back and reorganize
And continue to force more swings.
***Ultimate goal, give up swings in order to force offense to make more passes. If the offense gets antsy, they may throw into tight spaces or throw speculative hucks to our deep defender.
