Set up in the regular 2-3-2
Note: This is a defense that is designed the keep the opposing offense in the middle of the field and force them to throw through our wall. So, the shooters (1&2) HAVE keep the break throws from happening. Meaning, that 1 is playing a very flat flick mark and is a step or two off of the thrower so that the thrower cannot throw through him. Also, shooter number two is playing close enough to handler 3 that if a throw goes up he can get to it, but also tries to take away the open lane to 7
So, as cutters five and six crash into the wall, it is the mid's (3) job to take away the in cuts
As the wings of the wall, it is 4&5's job to pinch in a little bit whenever 3 is guarding the in cut (As you can see, this really clogs up the throwing lanes
If the offense is able to get the around throw to either side we have to be able to de several things 1. the shooter (2) will put on a flat mark, forcing the offense to throw back to the middle. 2. The other shooter (1) stays between 1&2 in order to prevent the big swing to handler 1 3. The wall has to quickly be able to expand in order to stop the continuation throws to 6&7 and then set back up
As we can see here, the wall (3,4,5) have set up primarily on one half of the field. They are stopping the up line throw to seven with player 5. The wall stops the in cuts from 5&6 with the mid 3 (who also has to defend crashes from 2) and 4&6 are guarding the lofty throws to 4
