This drill helps down field defenders work on their heads up marking, by forcing them to STEAL a look as they approach with their mark. The progression becomes more aggressive, as the mark tries to stop different continuation options downfield. CALLED FORCE is FLICK.
FIRST PROGRESSION. With the Offensive being a couple yards ahead of the defender, they both cut toward cone 1.
Offender cuts back towards either cone A or B.
Defender MUST cut all the way to cone 1 before chasing Offender.
The disc is thrown to the Offender, Defender must take a look downfield as they charge to set the mark on the CALLED FORCE. The Offender should attempt to make a solid throw against the mark.
SECOND PROGRESSION
Same as before, they both cut toward cone 1.
Offender choose a cone to cut back at, as defender continues to Cone 1 before chasing Offender.
Disc is thrown to Offender, and Defender must take 1 count of their mark to stop the obvious downfield throw.
After One second, the defender must shift back to the CALLED FORCE.
THIRD PROGRESSION
As the Offender is making their in-cut, Defender by STEAL a LOOK downfield, as the downfield receiver angles in (left or right) (replay this a couple times to notice the receiver flare left or right)
As the disc gets thrown, the defender must take 1 second of their mark to stop the obvious downfield throw.
After one second, the defender must shift their mark back the CALLED FORCE.
FOURTH PROGRESSION
As the Offender is making their in-cut, Defender by STEAL a LOOK downfield, and notice the receiver cutting deep.
As the disc gets thrown, the defender must take 1 second of their mark to set up with their arms WIDE AND BACK to stop a large follow-through huck for one count.
After one second, the defender must shift their mark back the CALLED FORCE.
