Standard horizontal stack (ho stack) setup. Note that the cutters and handlers are stretched to the ENTIRE width of the field. Also note that the cutters are around 15-20 yards away from the handlers.
Cuts are initiated by the two cutters in the middle of the field (5 and 6) called "poppers" (because they pop in and out of their respective lanes).
The two poppers now set-up their cuts (2-3 steps either in or out).
They then make their cuts in the opposite direction (5 comes in towards the thrower, 6 goes out away from the thrower). This gives us two legitimate throwing options:
1. 12-15 yard under to 5.
OR
40-50 yard huck to 6.
Resetting the offense.....
If we choose to make the under throw, we've created a very easy opportunity to continue the disc downfield, because of 6's deep cut.
Under throw is completed, and now 6 has a huge lane to make an under cut. At the same time, one of the wing cutters (4 and 7) sets up a continuation downfield.
Continuation to 6. At this point, the rest of the team should fill the spaces that have been created as quickly as they can.
Continuation to 4. Because there is so much space on the left side of the field, 5 moves to become a wing cutter and more importantly clears out of the space behind 6 so that the handlers can make dump cuts. 7 continues to set up a continuation for 4.
Continuation to 7. At this point, since there is no continuation, we would look for either a dump or a swing (a throw horizontally across the field).
Dump to 2.
FInal continuation to 6 for the score.
Overall, the most important thing in the ho-stack is awareness. You can make the same cut twice and it be right in one situation but wrong in another. Be aware. Create space, take space.
