Step by step 2 steps
  1. Step 1

Set Up: 1 on the mark has a front up force. 2 and 3 step into the lanes over the shoulders of the force. We are aiming to force the disc to the sideline without sacrificing significant yards. 4 is the "rover", this will take the role of man marking any players behind the mark. This allows 2 and 3 to stay relatively wide in the lanes. 5 and 6 are extremely active wing defenders and will need to communicate to the middle diamond, play this with your back to the wing so you can see the whole pitch. 7 is the deep, they can also see the whole pitch and communicate to the other players. In downwind points they can afford to squeeze the play by being close to the diamond. In upwind points they could be almost back to the end zone, depending on how clever the offense is.

  2. Step 2

Sideline Trap: 1 stays on the force but switches to a sideline force. 2 stops the pass directly up the sideline. Can judge how far back based on the wind and the offensive players. 3 marks the around dump. Must be willing to pass this player on if they go up the line. 4 tucks in to stop the inside break throw. 4 also crashes into the thrower if a cutter or dump crashes for a small yardage gain. 5 can drop back and slightly into the middle of the pitch knowing that any up line pass has to travel around 2, they can help out the deep and effectively become a deep on the near side. 6 comes in from the sideline to a more central spot. They stop any overheads that get around the 1234 trap., generally short range throws are more dangerous. 7 can cover part of the space 6 has just left. They still keep their deep position, but may edge more towards the far sideline. They must also be aware that they will still need to help out deep and can react to a deep shot to either side.
