Step by step 11 steps
  1. Step 1

Team Red is on Defense and is Pulling to Team Blue on Offense. Before Team Red throws it they decide the force and the positions everyone will play. Team Red decides to force flick and then pulls the disk

  2. Step 2

Team Blue Players 1, 2, and 3 are handling and players 4, 5, 6, and 7 are cutting. Meanwhile team Red runs to get into position

  3. Step 3

Player 1, 2, and 3 are in the cup. #1 is the mark who stands on the left side of Blue's #2 (since they are forcing flick). Red #s 2 and 3 are also in the cup but they stand 10 feet away from Blue #2 so that they don't double team. The Cup wants to stop team blue from throwing to the left or from throwing up field. Whenever the disk moves, the cup follows it and sets up.

  4. Step 4

Red #7 is the Deep Deep. If anyone on team blue goes long (like Blue 6) he's in charge of them. He always stays behind anyone running deep. Additionally, the Deep deep has the best perspective on the field. He yells commands to Red 4, 5, 6. For example, he sees Blue 5 running in on Red 4's right. The Deep Deep yells "On your Right!" to #4.

  5. Step 5

Red #4 is called the Hammerstop or the Mid-Mid. The Mid-Mid is in charge of all cuts from Blue team's 5 and 6 (Poppers). He stays in front of any player coming in.

  6. Step 6

The Mid Mid also has to talk to the cup. In this example, Blue player 6 decided to "Crash" the cup. This is where he runs straight into the cup to reset the stall count. The Mid Mid must warn the cup (especially Red 2 and 3) when a crash is coming.

  7. Step 7

In order to block Blue 6's crash. 2 and 3 would step closer together to block 6's path. A crash can also occur between Red 1 and 2 where only 2 would move to block the crash. It is important to note that blocking crashes must be done with caution as it can open up holes for the handler to throw through.

  8. Step 8

Red 5 and 6 are playing the wings. They are in charge of blocking any throw that comes toward their side line.

  9. Step 9

Additionally, experienced and skilled Hammerstops and wings look at the handlers and find opportunities to poach and play defense on the handlers swinging the disk. For example, in the picture Red 6 (wing) intercepted Blue 2's throw to Blue 3. THIS MUST BE DONE WITH CAUTION!

  10. Step 10

Blue 2 threw it to Blue 3. Blue 3 is standing near the sideline on the force side. The cup will now throw a trap. Red 2 yells "TRAP!" and takes the mark. Red 3 blocks any up line throws and Red 1 guards Blue 2.

  11. Step 11

Trapping often causes the handler to make full field swings. If Red 5 is experienced and confident he can poach and make the defensive play. THIS MUST BE DONE WITH CAUTION!
