Step by step 19 steps
  1. Step 1

The handlers are in a mini-stack across the pitch level with the disc. The cutters are in a vertical stack slightly closer to the sideline that the disc is on.

  2. Step 2

Handler no.2 fakes dump, runs line, and receives the disc.

  3. Step 3

From this power position the handler with the disc has the IO huck to the far corner....

...or the hammer to the break side. Both of these are high risk, high reward options that completely change the play. By threatening these options early in a game, you make the defense wary of the threat.

  8. Step 8

While handler no. 2 looks at upfield options, handler no. 1 clears out of what is now the dump space to move level with the disc (there is another line cut option here, but this won't be looked at) and handler no. 3 cuts for the dump and receives the disc. If the dump isn't free, handler no.1 runs another line cut. This is non-ideal as it fails to centre the disc.

  9. Step 9

Handler no.1 cuts to the swing position and receives the disc, handler no.2 clears to front of stack. The play is now back into a good starting position. Ideally, the break continues to cutters 5 and 4, who play quick passes up the break side.

  13. Step 13

(reset to step 1) What happens if the line cut in step 2 doesn't get free or is looked off?

  14. Step 14

Operating on the basis that a fast handler can get free in one of these positions, if the cutter is unable to get free on the line, he takes the dump, and swings to handler 3.

  15. Step 15

During the swing, handler 1, clears to front of stack and we are in a good position to play.

  16. Step 16

    (reset to step 1)

  17. Step 17

If the handler no 2 is looked off after his line cut, handler no.3 comes in for the dump.

    12345671234567
  18. Step 18

Handler no. 2 doubles back for the swing and handler no. 1 clears to the front of the stack. (alternatively, handler no2 could clear to the stack, and cutter no.4 could come back for the swing).

  19. Step 19

Once again we are in a good position to commence offense. The role of the cutters during handler movement has not been fully explored, but provided the cuts do not encroach on handler play the cutters could largely be doing whatever they wanted, provided they are ready for continuation passes where required.
