Straight up marks until offense gets to the redzone(about 20 yds away from the endzone). R6 is straight up btw 1 and 2 yards off the disc. R7 and R5 are poaching the throwing lanes, allowing horizontal throws to the handlers. R2/R3 are playing over/under(clamp)-basically R2 is man on the deepest middle cutter and R3 is man(FACE-GUARDING) on the innermost cutter. SWITCHES WILL OCCUR. R1/R4 are manned up on the wings. If switches occur then GO TO STEP 9.
IF disc is swung to B7 then R7 cuts off upfield throw then collapses and puts a straight up mark on. R6 pouches the inside upfield throwing lane. R5 poaches the "SWING" side lane btw B6 and B5. Regardless of who(B2 or B3) cuts in/out, R3 still mans up on the innermost player and R2 takes the deeper player.
If the disc is swung to the opposite side of the field the same responsibilities occur as shown.
It is important that R5 and R7 DON'T CHASE the disc but contain it by cutting off upfield throws before putting a mark on. R2 and R3 must communicate switches and disc positions constantly. Pointing as well as talking are considered effective communication.
R3 must stay with which ever player cutter comes to their zone. Because this is still considered man, if there are two cutters in one zone area, there must be two defenders as well.
If a break upfield happens, whichever man has the disc should put the mark on. THE POINT OF THIS DEFENSE IS TO STOP UPFIELD MOVEMENT. Force B3 to make a dump.
Once that dump is made, our zone falls back into position.
Force the disc to be thrown back to the middle of the field.
If switches occur btw the offensive poppers and wings then R3 must recognize that and communicated it to R2, R4, R1. R1/R4 take the man coming in Their zone. R3 must stay under watching anyone cutting into the middle with the biggest threat being the cutter closer to the disc. R2 stays deep and is the last person to fall back into position.
