1
This is how the zone should set up. Forcing to one side, R6 & R5 under B6 & B7, and R4 shading to the open side.
...
2
As the disc moves to the open sideline, the cup follows, containing up field movement without allowing a break to go back through. ---R5 watches for B7 coming in for a continuation because he is the IMMEDIATE threat. R4 watches for the popper (B5) closer to the open side because that's his immediate threat. ---R6 wants to split handler(B2) and wing (B6). If popper(B4) drops into his zone space he must be aware of him as well.
...
3
The offense wants to swing the disc to the break side so B1 will drop to a dump position or something will be thrown over the top of the cup. R1 should contain the disc, dropping down instead of attacking the disc straight on. This forces the dump swing to lose more yards than they would want.
...
4
Cup CONTAINS the disc as it is swung to the break side.
...
5
With this movement the zone, barring any perfect upfield upside down throws, the cup is always in position to contain the disc.
...
6
TRAPPING THE FORCE LINE: When we want to trap the force line we allow them to throw it to the open handler(Blue3).
...
7
When the disc reaches the sideline Mid-cup(Red2) becomes the new mark, Mark-cup(Red1) face guards the dump, and around(Red3) takes the up-line. Force side wing(Red5) can move further up the sideline watching for anything thrown between Red3 and Deep-deep(Red7).
...
8
If Blu4 pops into the cup, Mid-mid follows until pop crashes cup. Mid-mid must then find the other popper.
...
9
If Blu1 clears, then Red1 must await the next dump threat. As long as there is Sideline communication as well as on-field communication, the thrower will have to force a bad throw into a guarded area.

3-3-1 Zone D
This is how the 3-3-1 Z should move and play CONTAIN on the disc. --Cup(Red 1, 2, 3) should prevent breaks through the cup or around the mark. Move together. Don't follow the disc, CONTAIN the disc from advancing. --Wings(Red 5, 6) should always play under wings(Blue 6, 7). --Mid-Mid(R4) and Deep(R7) should shade to the open side because anything over the top of the cup to B4 or B6 will travel slower and will give R4 and R7 enough time to react to it.
