Step by step 13 steps
  1. Step 1

We start with three handling offensive players and three defenders, with the disc on one side. The two sideline defenders are mostly just marking, and are not trying to make defensive stops, just playing a hard mark.

  2. Step 2

The center handler will be doing most of the action, starting with an upfield cut. Their defender IS trying to stop them to the best of their ability.

  3. Step 3

The center handler should realize whether this is a viable option or not BEFORE passing the vertical line directly from the mark, shown by red (6).

  4. Step 4

When they recognize it, they should stop their motion and re cut back to the open space they have vacated.

  5. Step 5

They use this wide open space to receive the pass from the sideline. Meanwhile, the far side handler is preparing for the swing pass by setting up their defender upfield.

  6. Step 6

The left side handler cuts back in, and the swing is thrown. NOTE: the left side defender should not attempt to stop this throw. Instead, they let the pass through and set a hard mark forcing towards the sideline.

  7. Step 7

The process is then repeated on this side.

  9. Step 9

  10. Step 10

Remember: the defender Red (1) is actively trying to create a turnover and defend all options, so committing to either the upfield of backfield too much will leave the other open.

  11. Step 11

If the defender doesn't guard the upfield well enough, or tries to cheat and guard only the dump, the offense SHOULD try to gain the upfield.

  12. Step 12

To make this more competitive, you can set a goal for each side to accomplish. For instance, the offense is trying to make it past the Red (6) dot, while the defense wants to get 3 stops before the offense can make it there.

  13. Step 13

EDUCATIONAL NOTE: Should the up-line be completed, the far side handler should move up in line with the new thrower, and the sideline handler who threw the disc should fill into the middle as so. Now the drill/offense can continue flawlessly.
