Step by step 9 steps
  1. Step 1

SET UP: Stack starts on opposite side of the field from the pull. Stack should be shallow (<15yds up field of the disc) and within 5 yds of the sideline. Field the pull away from the stack, past the center of the field. GOAL: Create large spaces for the cutters to attack, both under and deep.

  2. Step 2

7 - "Pull catcher" main goal is to catch the pull and field it to the center handler (6) in the correct area on the field. Primary job, MUST CATCH THE PULL, don't let it hit the ground and roll, getting the disc to 6 is crucial for the offence to start running smoothly. Once the pull is fielded provides a reset for the center handler when they are not able to move the disc up field.

  3. Step 3

6 - "Center handler" main goal is to get the disc to either 1 or 2. Primary job is to follow the play looking to provide a reset if cutters get stuck.

  4. Step 4

1 & 2 - "1 & 2" primary cutters, main goal is to work together to get the disc moving. They can start anywhere in the open space that they want to, starting shallower is better. Commonly used cut for 1 is to cut in, then horizontally and deep which provides and easy under for 2.

  5. Step 5

Stack wants to follow play as they move up field, staying close to the sideline.

  6. Step 6

3 - "3" main goal is provide continue cut for 1 & 2. You will typically see your defender drop off to poach or help deep. Basically, looking to continue the offense, providing an additional option, but also don't want to cut in front of 1 or 2 if they are attacking a space.

  7. Step 7

4 - "Finisher" main goal is to score. If all goes to plan and we've moved the disc up field and haven't scored yet, the finisher is looking to make a strong cut towards the endzone. Want to almost go straight deep as to provide a bigger window to hit, do not cut diagonally as this will close the window where you are able to score.

  8. Step 8

5 - "Stack setter" has several tasks, to keep the stack shallow, provide a bail out dump if the play breaks down early and the center handler isn't able to reset the disc to the pull catcher, and to set a vert stack to keep the offense organized if it starts to break down. When to transition to a vert stack, usually when one of the cutters get stuck with the disc and has to reset it. When this happens call fire and get to a vert stack and continue the offense from there.
