Step by step 9 steps
  1. Step 1

Against zone, we have 4 options to break through the cup: over the top, through the cup, chiseling, and swinging. Most of the time we'll have to chisel and swing, due to weather and their defense.

  2. Step 2

To chisel, we come up through the cup and get a short pass. Ideally this comes from 3, on the open side.

  3. Step 3

Now that the cup has to retreat, we can try to find a hole for a popper as the cup shifts.

  4. Step 4

Next, the wing should attack towards the disc, trying to gain easy yards.

  5. Step 5

The thrower should chase the disc, putting the defensive 5 in a 2 on 1 situation, and likely getting them out of their zone.

  6. Step 6

Let's instead assume we have to swing. What we cannot have are short swings that don't for the cup to move very far, especially since they trap us against the sideline. Instead, we need wide swings, ideally upfield.

  7. Step 7

Here, 3 pushes upfield, catching at the level of the cup. This given them an option to 5 or 7 immediately, or to break through the cup as it moves upfield.

  8. Step 8

Here, we've hit 5, who will have several options to both the break side and upfield, hopefully forcing them out of their zone.
