Step by step 5 steps
  1. Step 1

Set up in normal vert stack. This play is fun to try once a game, but can get beaten by efficient brackets cautious of deeps.

  2. Step 2

As the play starts, the 5 of the stack should run a very standard, the most basic cut there is. Fake deep, come under. Open side. Meanwhile, the front of the stack will be making an unusual cut to the breakside, preparing to go deep.

  3. Step 3

The 5 will finish cutting under, and the 1 will break deep, giving the handler two potential options depending on who got open. The handler can now either put it straight deep to the 1, or hit the under to the 5. If neither are open, the 1 and 5 should clear, the 4 will cut, and the handle will look to his reset after that, as normal vert flow starts.

  4. Step 4

The goal outcome. A deep put, ideally to the end zone or close to it. This play works great if the other team likes to poach off the front of the stack, as they will often be unmarked, making the deep cut much easier. This play does not work well against teams that bracket deep, or like to always keep one of their defenders hanging out deep or marking Last-Back, as this defender can easily pick up the 1 and stop the play. However, this is a good play to run after a few points of vert where the offense gets used to the 1 setting stack and only acting as a 3rd handler sometimes, it can surprise teams who get too used to it.
