Possession is gained on the sideline, on or close to the defensive end zone line. The defence has setup a trap, with a no-arounds force and a bracket stopping under and deep options. Offence is in a vertical stack, with a dump and a primary cutter starting out of the stack.
The primary cutter (4) makes an initial movement to engage their opponent. The dump (2) is already readying to make their cut.
The first cut isn't likely to be open. The dump makes their cut hard into the open space. The front of stack (3) is already starting their fill cut.
The front of stack cuts into the dump space.
If they're not open, they clear with a cut into the open space as well, and the next in the stack (5) starts their fill cut.
By offering multiple cuts in a short period of time, we increase the likelihood of open up a gap in the defence. Most likely this will be in inside throw across the field to the front of stack.
They can then look to continue down the breakside.
Other options that may open up as the defence is moved around are the little throw into the middle space between the bracketing players, the around break if the mark isn't on properly, the throw to the front of stack if the defence leaves a hole there, and the deep shot if nothing else is available.
