The diamond zone is set with a point (R1) cup (R2, R3) mid (R4), wings (R5, R6) and deep (R7)
When the disc is swung to sideline we immediately move to trap. Point goes to mark and the trap side wing overpursues to seal continue. The break side wing finds the reset and gets ready to defend.
The trap wing should settle back into a slightly more central position. The point should 3/4 mark preventing arounds entirely. The reset defender should be prepared to engage.
If the reset goes back dump, that is okay. The reset defender should let them go. We trust the point to trap them tightly and dumps straight back are okay.
If the reset handler goes upline, the reset defender (R2) should challenge them but be prepared to hand off to the strong side cup (R3).
This is what the full trap should look like.
Other than the back dump, one of the most common looks is straight up the line. That is okay. The trap side cup (R3) has a shot at it.
The zone resets downfield.
Sometimes the handler can throw a big reset over the top. That is okay.
The zone resets. The point always marks. Now the break side cup (R2) is contesting the upfield lane, and the trap side cup (R3) is guarding the reset.
The disc moves towards the break sideline.
We reset the trap.
