We want a compact, disciplined stack slightly on the open side and 10-12 yards upfield from the disc. This will allow for 2 cutting lanes both sides of the stack and for a safe reset space in front of the disc.
As much as possible, we want a maximum of 2 players moving out of the stack simultaneously: one cutter (whoever communicates to the others and attacks one of the lanes) and our "Primary" (first of the stack, in this case #3). We DO allow our Primary to move East-West to offer quick pass options to our thrower.
Our stack will move and adjust in all directions as the disc also moves: laterally (East-West) and upfield-back. In this case, the stack will move in a diagonal formation since the disc is close to a sideline and down to maintain a 10-12 yards gap with the disc.
We want a reset option with the handler AT ALL TIMES. If the reset has to leave his position, say to offer an up the line cut, one of the players from the stack has to recognize and run downfield to set into the reset position. It will most probably be our Primary, which is now #4.
As the disc is swung from one side to the other, wa want to make sure that we offer a continuation to use that momentum. It could come from a cutter/striker out of the stack OR from our Primary. Remember: we allow that kind of movement for our Primary even if it sometimes means getting in the way of a cutter coming in. Our goal, as a team, is to maintain possession of the disc PERIOD.
