Step by step 9 steps
  1. Step 1

A look at the basic structure and movements to use against any containment zone (i.e. a zone that clogs up middle of the field without applying a sideline trap). Handlers and wing deeps need to stay wide as much as possible.

  2. Step 2

The disc needs to be moved to the sideline at every opportunity. Poppers can make this easier by overloading the flaps. Cut between one of the flaps and the handler to drag them towards the middle of the field. The second popper can follow in behind in case the plug overcommits and leaves a gap.

  3. Step 3

The handler on that side should then be completely free to receive the swing.

  4. Step 4

As that's happening, the wing deep on the same sideline cuts under to offer a continuation pass.

  5. Step 5

If the continuation pass can't be made, don't force anything. Let the defence shift over.

  6. Step 6

Swing the disc back to the middle.

  7. Step 7

And then quickly swing to either sideline once again, and look for that continuation down the sideline.

  8. Step 8

The primary role of the poppers is the engage the defenders in the middle of the field to open up the sideline for the handlers and wing deeps. If they are able to get free for a throw through the middle of the field, that's a bonus. If the wing deep does get a continuation pass, the poppers can also run hard to offer more options to try to keep ahead of the defence.
