Step by step 9 steps
  1. Step 1

Initial Setup: THE CUP: 1 - Mark 2 - Top (female) 3 - Swing (female) THE MIDS: 4 - Break-side Mid (female) 5 - Mid-Mid 6 - Open-side Mid DEEP: 7 - Deep The mark (1) should position about a yard away, arms outstretched, not allowing the break throw behind them. If you're too close, you'll be easier to break! Top (2) should position 10ft away from the blue handler so that nothing goes between them and the mark (1). Swing (3) positions horizontally from Top (2) so that nothing goes between them. Maintain 10 ft distance from the handler. Mid-mid (5) is taking away any in-cuts. They should play towards the open-side (where the force is). They should NOT follow cuts _past_ the CUP. If anybody "hangs" out in the middle, they should cover them. Open-side mid (6) should be a touch back of the Mid-mid. If there is nobody behind them, then they should follow any in-cuts in but NOT past the CUP. Break-side mid (4) should not allow anyone behind them in their zone. If their zone is empty, they should push towards middle so that Mid-mid (5) can focus on taking away the in-cuts to the open side. Deep (7) is the loudest person on the field. They should never let anyone behind them, and if they see another cutter going deep, they should alert the appropriate Mid player to drop back and help.

  2. Step 2

In-cut (5) happens. Mid-mid follows up until the cut approaches the CUP.

  3. Step 3

Cutter 5 continues, Mid-mid drops off, looking for next cutter to cover, and allows the pass since it's no yards gained.

  4. Step 4

CUP transitions to cover the disc as follows: - TOP and SWING move horizontally to block any downfield pass Deep sees a second cutter coming. They should immediately start calling the appropriate Mid for help.

  5. Step 5

Mid reacts and drops back. Mark transitions along the throwing lane from 1 to 5. This is important so that they don't allow the pass-back to 1.

  6. Step 6

Mark shuts down 1 and approaches for the stall-count

  7. Step 7

By now, Mid-mid should realize they're close to the CUP and not covering anyone. They should move back to help their team-mates. At the back, deep cutter moves in. Deep follows but still stays back to help out with any deep strike.

  8. Step 8

DUMP pass happens to 3. The mark should NOT spring immediately to 3 or else the swing-pass to 1 will burn them out. Instead, they should run towards the next option (1) before moving in to mark the disc. Meanwhile, TOP and SWING should slowly move towards the disc, cutting off the thrower first (5). Open-side mid's check strikes deep. They need to cover until they KNOW that the Deep player realizes and can cover the strike.
