Step by step 9 steps
  1. Step 1

basic 232 set up. first line (1,2) positions are mark and off. second line (3,4,5) positions are left mid, right mid, short deep. 3rd line (6,7) are left and right back

  2. Step 2

mark (1) is no inside. contest arounds, but you must stop any inside breaks. 2 (off) is doing pretty much the same job, just far enough away to not get a 10ft violation. Off also guards crashes, especially handler crashes. Left and right mid (3&4) are forcing poppers slightly out and towards the middle of the field and should fight to maintain this position. They are also talking to the short deep (5) about where dangerous cuts are coming from. If a player crashes into the front line, the mids should cover it. Short deep (5) plays the middle space between the left and right mid. Their job is to stop any floaty throws to space and over the top throws that pass the mids. The left and right back are stopping throws to the spreaders on their sideline, and helping in the middle as much as they can. they need to be ready to cover the sideline if the disc swings though

  3. Step 3

disc swings to the sideline. 1 was closer, so puts on the mark, forcing middle. If the disc had swung to the other sideline, 2 would put on a force middle mark. the front line player further from the disc plays fairly tight defense on the easiest reset, forcing them up line and away from the disc. the left mid and left back sprint to the sideline to double cover the spreader on that side while the mark gets set. the short deep puts themself between the disc and the nearest popper, while the far side mid rotates underneath the far side popper to force them out. the far side back pushes towards the middle to help with floaty throws that pass the front players. note that this player should be up closer than a deep deep would be, unless the offense has demonstrated that the far side spreader is a legitimate throwing target from this position. the far side handler is left uncovered

  4. Step 4

after the mark gets set in good position, the near side mid should go back to covering the popper on their side. the short deep is also helping on this cutter, guarding any throws that would go past the mid. if another popper enters threatening space, the short deep should cover them. the short deep should also help cover the nearest reset if they try to cut up field

  5. Step 5

nearest handler tries a crash. the off (2) follows this cut, essentially playing man on the reset. the short deep also helps on this cut, getting close enough to stop a poor or floaty throw, but not up tight on it

  6. Step 6

full field swing. as the disc swings, the mid and back on the side the disc is moving towards should sprint to double cover the sideline player. the back covers the out throw, while the mid covers the under throw. the short deep goes to cover the popper the mid just left

  7. Step 7

same rules as on the other sideline, just with roles switched. 2 is now mark, force middle. 1 is the off, forcing the reset upline and away from the disc. etc.

  8. Step 8

with no good options, and the primary look often double covered, the handler looks to full swing again. the far side mid can aggressively contest this swing if it is ever slow/floaty/off in any way without sacrificing the zone since the short deep can cover the popper they just left. the left and right mids should be the fastest players on the team
