In this drill we're looking to practice using extra numbers as a cutter. The scenario is a 5v3 - probably best to keep the 4v4 teams from the previous drill and just get one of the defending team to be the thrower.
With the attackers having a numerical advantage, three of the attackers should look to occupy one of the defenders each. This should leave one attacker free for an easy pass.
We tell the thrower to pretend they're throwing over a cup and require that the throw be an overhead. Players who aren't comfortable throwing overheads should make sure that the throw goes over shoulder height.
If necessary, the coach can stand three metres away from the thrower with their arms out to provide some realism.
Defenders may line up in any formation they wish as long as they are within the box marked out by cones. Attackers must start in a cluster in the middle.
We want to teach players that engaging a defender is as valuable as getting free, especially if you have a numbers advantage.
