Step by step 9 steps
  1. Step 1

Containment Zone. 3 up front (one mark and two flaps). 3 behind them (two wings and one short deep). One deep. When the disc is in the middle of the field, the force is straight-up. The mark focuses on making throws that gain ground hard. The flaps are happy to give up sideways or backwards passes to the dumps, but stay wide enough that they can't throw continuation passes down the sidelines. The plugs are guarding the space between the mark and the flaps. The short deep is looking to get some sick Ds. The deep deep is guarding any deep opposition players.

  2. Step 2

If the disc is passed towards a sideline, the first priority is to stop further progress down that sideline.

  3. Step 3

And then put a force middle on once the sideline threat is gone.

  4. Step 4

A swing back to the middle...

  5. Step 5

And then to the other side. Again, stop the next attacking pass first...

  6. Step 6

And then get the force middle back on.

  7. Step 7

Alternative zone: if we're playing this with the other team throwing upwind, we may just have a dedicated short deep and deep deep at all times.

  8. Step 8

Trapping: we'll trap if the disc is near the sideline and we have lots of time to set it up (e.g. out of a timeout, disc went out of bounds a long way, etc.). Mark forces sideline, closest flap defends the lane, furthest flap match marks the dump, closest plug takes down the line throws, furthest plug watches the long swing across field, short deep comes into the middle of the field, deep deep stays deepest.
