We are on defense (red). This is a defensive play that we'll be running off a pull or a dead disc, especially when the disc is in one of the outside thirds of the field. The two cutter defenders on the force side set up under their player (6 and 7). The far side defenders set up deep on their players (4 and 5).
6 and 7 cannot let their players get the disc under on the force side.
We are trying to force them to throw the disc deep in the same third, which is a hard throw and a hard read.
IF the throw goes up, then 5 peels off of her player to help deep. THIS IS NOT A POACH! This defender if only helping deep IF the throw goes up. This will gave us a 2 on 1 advantage in an already difficult situation for them.
If that deep shot does not go up, remember that we are still playin man defense and need to stop the unders.
If 5 cuts under, we are still playing man so 5 on defense should follow, but 6 can look to help under (thus, the bracket).
This is just a set play for a throw or two. After these options are prevented (or D'd), we go back to man D.
