This vert functions by using a cutting sequence. The key part of understanding how it works is based on knowing what each players role is. The order of the stack, or where people are cutting from within the stack, does NOT matter. For simplicity sake, the sequence is lined up in order down the field, but do not aim for, or expect the stack to set this way every time. With set positions it should give everyone an opportunity, each point, to be involved in the play.
Handle 1 (H1)- This player will be the main handler for the point. They will be the one to pick up the disc on a turn. There should always be an active option for them because there is an all time dump.
Handle 2 (H2)- All time dump! This player is the dump for everyone on the field. They will need to follow the disc and be available to get the dump at any time. They will also catch the pull and center it to H1
Getting the dump from the H1- If the H1 dumps to H2, H2 should take a few counts and look down field. There will most likely be cutters in the lanes trying to clear, so it's possible there won't be a good look and the disc will need to be returned to H1 (the substitute dump when H2 has the disc)
Before the dump: Cutter 1- The person in this position is responsible for starting all the action. They can go in or out on either the force or the break side. When cutting from the stack try to exit the stack at a 45 degree angle, like the arrows show.
Cutter 2- This player will be in a position where they can see what the C1 is doing and cut to the opposite side of the field (force or break side) but will ALWAYS be an in cut.
This gives H1 two options to throw to a cutter and the dump on reserve if those cuts don't work out.
In this case, C1 was open enough that H1 threw to them. Handle 3 (waiting down field) is watching to see if the disc goes to the force or the break side, and will be ready to run a continuation cut for whichever cutter got the disc. H2 goes to C1 as quickly as possible to be ready for a dump. H1 should push upfield ready for a swing if C1 needs to dump. C2 should reset back to the stack ready to cut if that swing happens.
H3 should get the disc while the rest of the stack continues to push back. C3, the deep look, should be already making their move once they see H3 making their cut. They want to push their defender in and then go to the back corner looking over their outside shoulder for the disc.
Score!
Reset
The last position is the Fill. This player will be watching (so it helps to be deeper in the stack: at least behind the C1) to see if there are any problems and will fill in where ever is necessary.
