This is the handler setup for a horizontal stack.
Notice the open side handler is behind the thrower, this is so that the open side defender can't poach in the lane.
As you can see if the open side handler is horizontal their defender can poach in the lane.
and still be able to easily put the pressure on quickly if the disc goes to the open side handler. in fact this is likely what the defense wants.
reset.
If the thrower needs a reset they can initiate either side handler, in this case they initiate the break side.
The breakside handler cuts up line in to the middle of the field.
If they are open they can receive the disc in a power position in the middle of the field with their defender behind them, this is exactly what we want.
The thrower then cycles to the outside and the open side handler hustle to move with the disc as well.
Reset.
If the up line cut is not open then they can turn 180 degrees to receive the disc back almost where they started.
This is not as good as a power position but it's still a good reset.
you want to always be trying to play a horizontal stack from the middle of the field, so the break side handler might not even bother looking downfield for more than a second or two, or the middle handler might even look for a give'n go and get it straight back. If they don't look for a give'n go straight away, they should hustle to put themselves back a bit behind the throw just like with the open side handler.
When the break side handler initiates the middle handler, they cut straight down field.
If the middle handler defender is facemarking, or doesn't follow them, then you can receive the disc in the middle of the field with your defender behind you, again this is exactly what we love.
reset.
If this downfield cut is not open like this.
They can turn 180 degrees and get an easy reset in the middle of the field. this is still a great out come.
The process for the open side is the same. initiate first. then cut downfield.
If it's not on cut back field.
For centering the disc it's the same as the first scenario we did. handler cuts up line.
if it's not on cut 180 degrees back.
the only other thing that if the disc goes downfield, we can get a dishy cut straight back, so the downfield cutter doen't have to turn around. this can happen from any of the three handlers.
In this case from the open side handler.
like this
This also gives us a power position.
