Step by step 8 steps
  1. Step 1

Red is defense pulling. This defense explanation is just to define defense players, show basic position and responsibilities.

  2. Step 2

Zone is set. Roles (Red players) are the following with description; (1) "monster/deep", is responsible for players heading deep and calling fire. (2 and 4) are side "wings", watches for incoming cuts from the side and middle. (3) "mid," is responsible for cuts happening in the middle. (5, 6, and 7) "Wall" players, are responsible for preventing upfield throws and forcing the opponent to swing. Quick definition for the offense (blue): (1 and 4) left and right "rails," are responsible for continuation on swings and stretching the zone. (2 and 3) "Poppers," are responsible for finding space in the middle, providing continuation past the wall, and resetting the stall.

  3. Step 3

Wall and zone in general is ran to exploit an advantage in the situation and possibly to solely prevent hucks. Weather and opponent skill influence the chances of zone being successful greatly as wind prevents high release breaks or a panic handler makes a hasty decision. The walls main goal is to make the offense swing the disc side to side.

  4. Step 4

The walls main goal is to make the offense swing the disc side to side. The mark (unless trapping) will set a flat mark and not force home or away. The other two wall players will support by taking away resets and chasing down swings and again, putting on a flat mark.

  5. Step 5

After a swing, the responsibilities change up a little. (Left wall - 7) is putting a flat mark, ( mid wall - 6) is preventing a crossfield throw. (mid - 3) is filling the gap between 5 and 6, countering poppers. (right wall - 5) is mainly pushing reset blue 6 back taking an attack at bad throws but is aware that the full swing to blue 5 is possible and is priority. (Monster - 1) gets even horizontally but is closer to the sideline to prevent blue 4 from getting a deep pass. (right wing - 2) lets (right rail - blue 1) go deep (while communicating to the monster) and covers the zone above (mid - 3). Lastly (left wing - 4) is preventing a throw to (left rail - blue 4) and is watching for (popper - blue 3) but not following.

  8. Step 8

If the disc reaches the half way point or in this case, is also way ahead of the defense, then it is the monster's job to call FIRE, meaning man defense is now in effect.
