Step by step 8 steps
  1. Step 1

Sometimes your cut is covered by a well positioned defender.

  2. Step 2

When that happens, you need to clear out quickly to allow other cutters to attack the open side.

  4. Step 4

There are two lanes to consider: clearing out deep and clearing out to the break side. We *DON'T* cut straight back into the stack, because this allows our defender to clog subsequent cuts.

  5. Step 5

If you clear out deep, be sure to give your thrower the angle to put it to you! By making your clear out wide, you create space for a throw you can run onto. If you run directly away from the thrower, this is a much harder throw.

  6. Step 6

The other option is to clear out to the break side. But just because you're clearing out doesn't mean you can't create an option for your thrower while you do so!

  7. Step 7

As you clear out across the front of the stack, the option is there for the thrower to put a leading pass out into the break side for you.

  8. Step 8

There should be an easy continuation!
