The Mill Drill is a way of tidying enzone offence, utilising swing passes to score in the other corner of the endzone. It's based on the vertical stack with handlers cutting from the front and cutters from the back. Ideally, we can repeat this many times until we get an easy pass into the endzone.
We'll start with the handler collecting the disc on one side of the pitch.
2 Cuts out from the front of the stack and collects the swing.
At roughly the same time, 7 cuts from the back of the stack towards the front corner of the endzone.
1 Returns to the stack and 7 catches the disc for a score
2 cuts close to the endzone to receive the dump pass. 7 clears out to the front stack.
3 Cuts to receive the swing.
6 Cuts from the back of the stack to the left front. 2 Clears out to the stack.
3 passes a completion to 6 for a score and moves to collect the dump.
6 Throws the dump and clears to the front stack. And Repeat. (and repeat and repeat a little more!)
Let's make the scenario a little more real-world, by adding defenders and making the cuts more realistic.
1 is on disc and is being forced up the line, the defence are all marking the cutters on the open side, which means that receiving the easy pass openside will be tricky.
2 is going to cut for the dump by faking towards the openside (thus making their defender cover the openside
Then, 2 cuts out to receive the swing. 2's defender should be too far back to put a bid on the disc.
7 should see the swing go to 2 and should cut to the corner of the endzone. Ideally, 7 should not need to fake as they're cutting to the break side.
2 should throw a pass in front of 7, who scores.
If 7 needs to come closer to get the disc (either because the swing was deep or the throw was short) 7 should dump the disc back to 2, who cuts closer to receive the disc
3 Fakes a cut in the endzone
And then cuts out to gain the swing, From here, we can again look to attack the openside, if the marks have been caught-out by the swing. Otherwise, we can turn and swing the disc back to the break side again.
