Step by step 18 steps
  1. Step 1

Set up in the stack. There are no set rules as to where the cutters have to cut, more like guidelines. 1) Cut to open space 2) If you don't get the disc, get back in the stack wherever there is a hole. 3) React to the other cutters.

  2. Step 2

Watch as 2 makes an outside cut, 3 cuts to the inside to open the throwing lane (red line) and to also provide the handler with another throw.

    1234567
  3. Step 3

The two cutters are working together to make "diamond cuts". These are some of the most used cuts for the ho stack.

    1234567
  4. Step 4

Diamond cuts can be used by any two adjacent cutters. Here, the cutters on the right side are making diamond cuts.

    1234567
  5. Step 5

Notice that they fill the holes in the stack if they don't receive the disc.

    1234567
  6. Step 6

Now the cutters on the left side of the field make diamond cuts.

    1234567
  7. Step 7

The cutters return to the stack and get ready to make additional cuts. Notice that the two cutters who make the diamond cuts are the closest cutters to the disc. Also, the cutters are cutting clockwise. This will change depending on the way the defense forces (Forcing flick = clockwise, forcing backhand = counter-clockwise).

    1234567
  8. Step 8

Now lets look at some of the other ways the cutters can utilize the open space. The middle cutters start by making diamond cuts.

    1234567
  9. Step 9

This time the cutter who started the out cut is going to cut in hard. The far left cutter has made a deep cut, so 4 clears to the sideline to fill the hole and provide a lane for the huck.

    1234567
  10. Step 10

This triangle cutting pattern can be continued. Meanwhile, the other outside cutter can be making his own cuts (in or out).

    1234567
  11. Step 11

    Reset

    1234567
  12. Step 12

Now we see as cutters 2 and 4 make in cuts as 1 and 3 go deep. Note that the cutters REACT to each other. If 2 had made an out cut, 1 wouldn't make the same out cut, he would make the in cut. Same goes with 3 and 4.

    1234567
  13. Step 13

The cutters return to the stack to complete the diamond cuts.

    1234567
  14. Step 14

Now we see the diamond cuts flow in the opposite direction. 2 and 4 decide to cut out, so 1 and 3 cut in to open the lanes and provide additional throws for the handler.

  15. Step 15

    1234567
  16. Step 16

If both of the middles decide to make out cuts to the sideline, the outside cutters can make in cuts.

    1234567
  17. Step 17

And then complete their diamond cuts.
