Step by step 18 steps
  1. Step 1

We start with cutters in a horizontal stack, where #4 and #5 are cutting as a pair on the backhand side of the field and #6 and #7 are on the forehand side.

  2. Step 2

If the disc is swung to the force side, 6 and 7 become the primary looks.

  3. Step 3

If the defense has cut off the route, either taking away the under or the over, there is still another chance for the offensive player to beat their defender in the opposite direction.

  4. Step 4

Note: It is important for the secondary cutters #4 and #5 to keep moving, despite being on the break side of field. This keeps your defender honest and opportunities for your handler to hit you with break under throw...

  5. Step 5

    or...

  6. Step 6

if the disc does get advanced down the line..

  7. Step 7

There are now two potential continuation opportunities.

  8. Step 8

But let's say that the disc never gets moved off the line. The secondary cutters should expect dump swing movements from the handler set.

  9. Step 9

#4 and #5 will continue their initial cuts while the disc is dumped.

    12345671234567
  10. Step 10

As soon as they realize the disc is being swung, they should plan to create space on that break side, by continuing to cut to the force side. Do not start cheating to the break side too early, otherwise you will tip your defender off that sometime must have happened and they need to adjust what they are doing.

  11. Step 11

Ideally, the handler should now have both the under and the deep look on the break side, as well as looks on the force side.

  12. Step 12

One last thing to keep in mind, is that the handlers might need extra help getting the disc off the line, in order to set up the dump swing.

    12345671234567
  13. Step 13

If the defender is fully committed to taking away that first dump,

  14. Step 14

handler #2 might try for a strike cut, while handler #1 sets up for the dump cut.

  15. Step 15

If handler #1 gets the dump, he will need a swing cut, in order to truly get the disc off the line.

  16. Step 16

Ideally, one of the secondary cutters is paying enough attention to the handler movement and can jump in for the swing.

  17. Step 17

In this case, if there is a high percentage downfield opportunity, then take it, otherwise, reset the disc back to one of the handlers with a dump, as soon as possible. The goal wasn't to gain yards, the goal was to create more opportunities in the future in order to move the disc.
