Step by step 11 steps
  1. Step 1

Basic Setup. Defense: R1 should be tight on the breakside handler. Nothing to poach here - it's more valuable to make this a difficult throw. R3 Should typically poach. If the disc gets swung to handler B3, blue is in a worse p osition than before. The poach should take away throws to B6 and B7 - note that R6 downfield is playing their man into the poach

Faster players can bait the throw.

  5. Step 5

Varsity's offense initiates with the INSIDE FORCE-SIDE cutter making a direct in-cut (no setup) to the break side. Meanwhile, the INSIDE BREAK-SIDE CUTTER sets up a standard in-cut to the force side.

  6. Step 6

This clears enough space to beat the poach. The handler can throw to either cut; B6, or B5. By the time B5 is open, B6, who initiated play, has cleared back into B5's original spot.

  7. Step 7

everybody should be pushing back as the disc advances. B6 is likely to be a little behind.

  8. Step 8

B7 is now the INSIDE FORCE-SIDE CUTTER, so she makes an incut in the direction of the break side (though she stays on the force side since there's penty of space) . B4 makes an outcut, spreading the field. The handler B3 is now in the way, so he falls backward or pushes forward to get his man out of the throwing lane.

  9. Step 9

B6 COULD make the diamond-shaped INSIDE BREAK-SIDE CUTTER cut, but in this case, differs to B4, who has the better position.

  10. Step 10

B4 can now return under, where she is wide open. B3 could cut for the dishie, or hang back.

  11. Step 11

At this point, the system becomes organic. Please take a look at (3) ORGANIC HO for Varsity's basic rules and concepts.
