Blue has disc, 4 cutters in a vertical stack and 3 handlers. Cuts are coming from the front of the stack.
Often, players in a stack are waiting to react based off the first person who initiates cuts from a stack.
If the first cutter fakes deep and comes back in, the next cutter could fake the under to set up the deep cut.
This way, if the under cut is not available the handler has a deep look, while the force side of the field has plenty of space for the next cutter
Who can then attack the under again.
Let's reset and take a look at another option. Instead of having the 2nd cut wait to figure out whether the 1st cut is going deep or under, and then doing the opposite
The second cut can attack the break side at the same time as the first cut attacks the force side.
In this situation we have now have two looks, an under on the force side, and a deep on the break side.
The first cutter still follows the general rule about clearing to the break side, so that the next cutter can still attack that force side.
Let's reset and take a look at what happens if the first cutter doesn't clear to the break side.
Again, the first cutter attacks the under on the force side, while the second cutter attacks the break side.
It may seem reasonable to the first cutter to try for the deep after cut.
The problem becomes a little more apparent when you factor in the defensive alignment.
As the cutters make their initial first moves, the defense starts to adjust.
At this point, the 3rd and 4th cutter are waiting on the lanes to clear out before making their cut.
If the first cutter goes for the deep second cut, it only plays into the defense who is already set up to help with over the top coverage. It also clogs the lane for the next cuts who now have to avoid creating a pick. As you can see #6 and #7, don't really have any viable options here.
So let's reset, and have that first cut clear to the break side, this time.
Again, the first two cutters initiate on opposite sides.
The defenders react accordingly
As the initial force side cut, clears to the break side, the third and forth cut, have plenty of open space to plan their attacks
And make their moves.
After making their moves, the cutters reset back to the stack. At this point, the handlers will have taken the downfield look, otherwise, they would have dumped or swung the disc by now.
