Step by step 31 steps
  1. Step 1

Red pulls to Blue. Blue picks 3 "handlers" who primarily throw the disc, and 4 "cutters" who primarily catch the disc.

  2. Step 2

Cutters form a vertical stack in the middle of the field starting about 10 yards away from the disc. Handlers hang back horizontal to the disc.

    12345671234567
  3. Step 3

Front of the stack cuts towards the disc. If open, the disc is thrown.

    12345671234567
  4. Step 4

Next person in the stack makes a continuation cut. If open, the disc is thrown.

    12345671234567
  5. Step 5

If no one else moves, the person with the disc will run out of players to throw to.

    12345671234567
  6. Step 6

Also, we run out of open space on the field. A single defender hanging out on the right side of the field could potentially shut down this entire offensive.

    12345671234567
  7. Step 7

Instead, we need the whole team to move as a unit and ensure we reset to the center of the field.

    12345671234567
  8. Step 8

All of the cutters are timing their movements off the person who cuts before them. If the disc is thrown to the first cut, then cuts are adjusted accordingly.

    12345671234567
  9. Step 9

When a cutter throws a disc, they must hussle to clear out of the throwing lane and then back into the stack. The handlers trail behind as needed.

    12345671234567
  10. Step 10

Play continues down field with cutters resetting back into position to receive down field throws.

    12345671234567
  11. Step 11

Realistically we will only have so many continuation opportunities.and need to reset the disc back to the handler and the cutters return to a vertical stack. Generally speaking, cutters should not be looking downfield for continuation cuts for more than a couple of seconds before locking eyes with handlers in hopes of resetting the disc.

    12345671234567
  12. Step 12

We also need to be sure to attack both sides of the field, otherwise the defense will simply camp out in the primary throwing lane. Outside of break throws, our handlers can attack the other side of the field by dumping...

    12345671234567
  13. Step 13

and swinging the disc. Now cuts can come to the opposite side of the field.

    12345671234567
  14. Step 14

    And so on

    12345671234567
  15. Step 15

    And so forth.

    12345671234567
  16. Step 16

If the continuation cut is there, we make the throw.

    12345671234567
  17. Step 17

If the continuation cut isn't there or is covered, then the disc needs to be reset back to the handlers, to work the other side of the field.

    12345671234567
  18. Step 18

The cutter resets back to the stack, and the handlers get into position for a dump

    12345671234567
  19. Step 19

    and then the swing

    12345671234567
  20. Step 20

Again, working both sides of the field.

    12345671234567
  21. Step 21

Note, it is not the primary job of the cutter to throw the disc down field. The primary job of the cutter is to make down field cuts.

    12345671234567
  22. Step 22

If the cutter gets the disc, they have a couple of seconds to assess what continuation cuts are out there.

    12345671234567
  23. Step 23

If the continuation is not available, then the disc should reset to the handler as quickly as possible. Let the handlers do their job of keeping the disc moving to both sides of the field. The cutter should clear out to the break side as to avoid clogging the throwing lane and create space for the next cut.

    12345671234567
  24. Step 24

If cuts are from the front of the stack, then cycle back to the top of the stack, while the handlers center the disc.

    12345671234567
  25. Step 25

Although the cutters will still make 45 degree cuts, they will be moving in a somewhat circular fashion to replay the person who cut before.

    12345671234567
  26. Step 26

Two cutters are faking and cutting to the force side

    12345671234567
  27. Step 27

While two other cutters are clearing out and resetting back to the stack.

    12345671234567
  28. Step 28

Again, this is just a general idea of how this will flow in theory.

    12345671234567
  29. Step 29

As you can see, it lends itself well for handlers who can work both sides of the field.

    12345671234567
  30. Step 30

    Enter step description...
