The rabbit is player 1. Players 2, 3, 4 are the wall. Players 5 and 6 are the mids. Player 7 is the deep. There is a left wall (4), mid wall (3) and right wall (2). The wall stands 15-20 feet from the thrower, 3 is straight in front of the disc while 2 and 4 are about 8 feet away on either of side of 3.
The wall's job is to (loosely) stay in formation and follow the disc as it moves around the field.
The basic job of the wall is to help direct the disc to a sideline so that the team can set up a sideline trap.
This is the sideline trap. 4 is now straight in front of the disc, 3 blocks the majority of the break side (side away from the force), 2 moves down and marks up the dump. If the dump is a good handler 2 will stay with that handler until the disc is thrown, otherwise she will allow the direct pass back.
There is a risk that if she stays with the handler...
The field is open for another handler to get the dump. This is why 2 only closely marks the handler when it is the opposing team's strongest handler.
The opposing team will dump and swing in order to break the wall (get past the wall). 2 needs to bust butt to get back into position. (or get to the closest side of the wall and get the wall to readjust)
The zone should always try to get back to it's formation as quickly as possible.
When a cutter cuts into the wall, it's usually the mid that will cut in with them. Player 5 should be calling out the cutter and warning the wall. The mid wall can either turn side ways to see what is coming or should be looking around to be aware of the opposing team.
The mid wall should continue to stay in front of the thrower and not move horizontally with the cutter. On a sideline trap it should be the person in front of the thrower that goes in.
When the disc gets thrown up field past the wall.
The wall must move quickly to get back into position. The first person from the rabbit/wall to get to the thrower should stand in front of the thrower to prevent the huck.
Once the rabbit comes to take over, the mark will back off and get back into position.
