Step by step 7 steps
  1. Step 1

The pull. Blue is offense, red is defense.

  2. Step 2

Initial setup. A few things of note. First, cutters (4-7) are set up 10-15 yards in front of the disc. Cutters 4 and 7 are right on the sideline — if by right on, I mean they have on foot on the line. Hander 2 is even with the disc, handler 3 (the open side handler) is about five yards backfield of the disc to keep their defender out of the lane.

  3. Step 3

Remember that the middle half of the field is our "live" zone and the side quarters are "reset" zones. Cutters 5 and 6 are in the live zone, so they are active. They should communicate and base their cut timing and placement off of each other. One good way to start is for cutter 6 to cut deep, possibly for a first-look huck, and cutter 5 to then cut underneath. Cutter 5 should time their cut to make sure not to block the first-look huck. Notice cutters 4 and 7 advancing down the field with the throw.

  4. Step 4

Cutter 6 didn't get the first throw, but they are still in the live zone of the field. Their defender should be sprinting at full speed to catch up, which makes for a great time to plant, turn, and come back in for the continuation throw. Notice that handler 2 is moving up the field into more of a cutting position — in a fast-moving offence, the wing handlers in particular (2, 3) should push up the field and be willing to move into a cutting role, while those early cutters (5) should be willing to hang back and take over those handling duties. Notice too cutter 4 moving into the live space to set up the next cut.

  5. Step 5

The flow continues to cutter 4. Cutter 5, who was behind the play, runs hard to get back to the reset space on the break side of the field, so she can get back to cutting. It's better to clear to the break side to keep your defender out of the main cutting lane, but as long as you hug the sideline either side is ok.

  6. Step 6

One thing we haven't talked about much is that horizontal stacks usually transition to vertical stack in the endzone; without a deep look, horizontal stacks are much easier to defend. Here, we reset the disc while falling into a vertical stack.

  7. Step 7

A cut from the back seals the deal.
