Blue is on Offense: Handlers: H1, H2, H3. Poppers: P1, P2. Deeps: D1, D2. Wind is a crosswind across the field.
Red is on Defense: In the cup; Mark is C1, Middle is C2, Off-Point is C3. Wings are W1 and W2. Short Deep is S and Deep Deep is D. Pull goes up.
Cup sprints down into position. Wings orient themselves with their backs to the nearest sideline so that they can see the entire field.
Disc swings to open side.
Cup moves as a unit to cover new thrower.
Disc breaks the cup and dumps back.
The entire Cup: C1, C2, and C3 moves horizontally..
before re-engaging.
Say the cup is broken to the break side handler.
Cup moves horizontally again..
before re-engaging.
Notice how the cup is flatter because it is closer to the break sideline.
If the cup was positioned as usual, too much space on the open side would be open.
Too much field position is gained by swing.
Zone can't recover, while the offense is off to the races.
Reset.
Disc is swung to open side Handler. Offensive open side popper and deep move to open side for continuation pass.
W2 must cover the more dangerous receiver. In this case, it is P2. Short Deep (S) must move to stop bleeding.
Disc is thrown to D2. Cup can still recover.
Reset.
Poppers cut into open spaces behind the cup. Keep your head on a swivel and always be ready to receive the disc.
Poppers need to work in a pair, like pistons. One cutting in..
Moving the cup over and creating opening space
For a throw through the cup.
Once a throw goes through the cup. Offense looks to hit a continuation pass. Most likely the other popper.
If downfield defensive players cover the following continuation passes, then the zone can still hold.
Say the disc continues upfield...
because handlers follow the play and dump and swing the disc well...
and the disc is in the third of field near our endzone.
Then the zone called "Fire" which is our call for Person to Person defense.
Cover the deepest offensive player first.
Then cover handlers and thrower.
