Step by step 24 steps
  1. Step 1

Initial, centered disc setup with red on defense. 1-2-3 are the first wall. 4-5-6 are the secondary wall. 7 is for deep discouragement and for picking up wind-blown trash.

  2. Step 2

    Poppers try to crash.

    12345671234567
  3. Step 3

Wall stops poppers from getting disc upfield.

    12345671234567
  4. Step 4

Disc is dumped, with offense looking to gain incremental yards with each pass.

    12345671234567
  5. Step 5

Poppers and wings try to get the disc upfield before the first wall can seal off disc movement.

    12345671234567
  6. Step 6

Mid-deep and wings prevent an immediate break of the zone.

    12345671234567
  7. Step 7

First wall is allowed to catch up, with the closest side of the wall forcing the disc back to the middle. Side of front wall cuts off upfield throws first, then goes to mark the thrower.

  8. Step 8

Mid-deep must constantly be on the lookout for the next viable pass and close it off, communicating with wings when necessary.

    12345671234567
  9. Step 9

    Disc swings to the middle...

    12345671234567
  10. Step 10

And all the way around. First wall and mid-deep maintain a barrier between the handlers and the poppers.

    12345671234567
  11. Step 11

If there is poor communication between the mid-deep and the wing and they cover the same person/area...

    12345671234567
  12. Step 12

    Bad things can happen.

    12345671234567
  13. Step 13

Now it is a game of 3v1, and the zone is broken.

    12345671234567
  14. Step 14

Communicate to make sure each option is taken away. The deepest player has the best perspective and should be the one talking.

    12345671234567
  15. Step 15

By the time the mid-deep and wing would be split...

    12345671234567
  16. Step 16

The front wall should be able to pick up the slack.

    12345671234567
  17. Step 17

If the cup does not move as a single unit...

    12345671234567
  18. Step 18

    Bad things can happen.

    12345671234567
  19. Step 19

It is better to have a slow wall without holes than a fast wall that is broken.

    12345671234567
  20. Step 20

Once more, the side of the wall forces the disc back towards the middle.

    12345671234567
  21. Step 21

    Another note:

    12345671234567
  22. Step 22

If the disc is swung and the wing tries to get a block, but fails...

    12345671234567
  23. Step 23

Bad things can happen. Play conservatively, wing! This is a defense of attrition.

    12345671234567
  24. Step 24

    Good luck!
