  2. Step 2

    This drill follows on from Intermediate Cutting Drill 1, which should be viewed first. In this drill the objective is to beat the defender and receive a disc.

    When cutting, an offensive player needs to: 1. Decided the initial shape of their cut (Under-Away/Away-Under) 2. Read their Defender's movement and position 3. React to their defender to best exploit their position.

    In this drill the O-Player (Blue) will start a cut (here away first)

  5. Step 5

    The D-Player will react by following, the O-Player will turn sharply, catching the D-Player off guard and gain a step.

  6. Step 6

    The O-Player can now run hard to receive the disc

  7. Step 7

    Resetting the drill, we can look at how an O-Player can exploit a D-Players movements.

    Here the O-Player is going to step towards the D-Player and make an initiating movement (2/3 steps)

    The D-Player will have to react to this movement. Depending on this movement the O-Player can react to maximise the distance between them and their mark

    The key is to not over-do it. If you have beaten your defender in one move, it is not necessary to make another cut.
