Typical zone defense. Strategies to beat this are to dump, swing, and take an under cut on the sides.
The zones that are marked by pylons are the areas of the field that require attention from multiple defenders. They pull the deep defended in their direction, and numbers 17 and 18 pull mid defenders deep.
Cutters should attack these zones, pulling the defense down the field, while going into soft spots in the zone. This movement will cause...
7 must go deeper, and shut off the deep threat. 5 and 6 need to follow deep. 4 may be able to stay fairly shallow, as throws to cutter 4 are difficult and could be floaty.
A hammer over 4 would devastate this zone
Reset.
7 should make a strong move under, and into the zone between the mids
4 should then attack zone 15, pulling the deep over. 5 starts an under cut, trying to catch the attention of 6. 6 on the offense should move into zone 18, restoring the threat of the break over the break-side mid.
Next, 5 or 7 will go deep. Keep in mind that two deep threats to each sideline are a huge danger for this zone. Meanwhile, there is a huge area open underneath the mids. It will be very tempting for cutters to go into these areas, but this area is for the handlers. It is their job to run the cup ragged, use give and goes, and move the disc gradually down the field. You must throw over the cup when the cutters find open spots, and use the deep cuts to keep the mids from cheating, but handlers should be able to go the length of the field like this.
Cutters must stay active to keep the mids deep. However, they should always be a minimum of 10-25 yards downfield. This depends on how windy it is, or how far your handlers can easily make all of their throws. For example, if the swing goes to the force side, 7 should never come under enough for the mids to be in position to stop this give and go cut.
Instead of cutting under, here, 7 should push into the deep middle area, which will bring the mids deep. The other cutters stay in this type of motion to keep the defense from focusing on the handler motions.
